Privacy is an underrated part of the specification. For prototype and pre-launch vehicle movements, not being visible is the requirement rather than a benefit.

At the other end of the range, single-vehicle carriers serve recovery operators, dealers making individual deliveries, and specialist movements. The economics are different: the unit is not competing on cost per vehicle across a full deck, it is competing on access, speed of turnaround and the ability to be dispatched quickly for one job.
Dealers frequently underestimate how much of their delivery work is single-vehicle. A large transporter sitting idle because today's job is one car to one customer is a poorly matched asset.
Securing vehicles on the deck
Vehicles are secured through their wheels rather than their structure. Wheel straps, ratchet systems and chocks restrain the tyre against the deck, which avoids loading the suspension or bodywork and prevents damage claims that arise from securing to chassis points.
The practical specification issues are the number of securing positions, their spacing along each deck level, and whether they can be reached without climbing between vehicles. A securing arrangement that forces the operator into awkward positions between closely parked cars slows loading and creates a safety exposure on every single load.
Height, weight and legality
The loaded combination must stay within national height limits, which in most European markets means 4 metres. On a car transporter this is a live constraint rather than a theoretical one, because the top deck sits high by design and a tall vehicle in the wrong position can put the combination over the limit.
Weight is governed by the same framework as any other combination: gross combination weight, axle load limits, and the tare weight of tractor and trailer. Six vehicles averaging 1.6 tonnes is close to 10 tonnes of payload, which is modest, so car transporters are rarely weight-limited. Corrosion protection
Open decks live outdoors permanently and see road salt through every winter. Structure that corrodes loses value fast and creates a presentation problem for a business whose product is delivering vehicles in perfect condition.
