STU car transporter trailers carry from one to six vehicles, depending on the model. Loading systems, chassis materials and payload are specified for each configuration.

STU concrete mixer trailers are offered in 12.7 m³ and 14.7 m³ models, with hydraulic mixing and discharge systems. Other volumes can be produced on request, subject to configuration and local weight limits.

Standard flatbed trailers offer a payload of 25 to 30 tonnes depending on axle configuration and specification. Chassis use ST52 / S355J2+N structural steel, with stronger grades available according to load requirements.

STU lowbed trailers are configured with 2 to 8 axles for heavy machinery transport. Fixed or extendable chassis, hydraulic ramps, suspension and steering equipment are selected according to the load, route and applicable limits.

Hydraulic steering low loader trailers offer capacities of 80 to 150 tonnes depending on configuration, axle plan, permits and engineering review. Fixed or extendable platforms and gooseneck equipment are specified for the transport project.

The car transporter chassis uses S355J2+N structural steel, with Strenx 700E available according to project requirements. Steel selection and any reduction in trailer weight depend on the final engineering design.

Hot dip galvanising forms a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel to protect the treated components against corrosion. Service life depends on the environment, use and maintenance.

Suspension and braking equipment vary by trailer model and destination market. Final specifications and applicable road requirements are confirmed for each order.

What is the Car Transporter Semi Trailer with 2 Axles? The Car Transporter Semi Trailer with 2 Axles is a specialised robust commercial vehicle designed to transport up to six cars simultaneously. It is the 'next generation' of car carrier engineering, introduced on July 30, 2024, focusing on durability and precision logistics. System of three decks operated by independent multistage hydraulic cylinders: Deck 1 (Gooseneck) with worm screw spindles, Deck 2 (Middle) with articulated linkage and extension, Deck 3 (Rear) extendable for oversized loads. Built on S355J2+N steel chassis (Strenx 700E optional), 100% galvanised by hot dipping, 32,000 kg max laden mass, two Gigant drum axles rated at 10 tonnes with EBS braking.

What vehicles can be transported on the 6 Car Transporter? The trailer handles diverse vehicle segments: Heavy SUVs (Segment J) like Mercedes AMG G63, Volvo XC90, Audi Q5; Electric & Executive Cars (Segment E) like Tesla Model S, Mercedes E200; Sports Cars (Segment S) like Maserati GranTurismo; and Standard Family Cars (Segment C) like Audi A3. Hydraulic deck system and 32,000 kg capacity allow versatile loading configurations for varied vehicle types. 1,500 mm hydraulic rear bumper extension and aluminium inner ramps create shallow approach angle for vehicles with low ground clearance.

What steel grades are used in the trailer construction? The core chassis is engineered using S355J2+N steel of high strength to ensure durability under heavy loads. For projects requiring even higher tensile strength and weight reduction (up to 30%), we also offer Strenx 700E (or MC700) as an optional upgrade. S355J2+N provides 355 MPa minimum yield strength. Strenx 700E offers 700 MPa yield strength for maximum strength relative to weight.

How is the chassis protected against corrosion? Galvanising by hot dipping is used for lasting protection against corrosion; actual service life depends on environment, use and maintenance, and warranty coverage is defined only by the signed contract. This provides lasting protection against environmental wear and rust. Galvanising by hot dipping creates a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel, providing superior corrosion resistance compared to paint or powder coating.

How has the hydraulic system been upgraded in the latest generation? We have transitioned from GMS to new generation Walvoil electrohydraulic valves for a smoother, more stable operating experience. Additionally, we replaced Rekorsan fittings with Hansa-Flex fittings, providing more secure sealing under operating conditions. Walvoil units offer compact architecture and exceptional stability. Hansa-Flex fittings are designed for robust hydraulic applications.

What type of power unit drives the hydraulic system? The trailer is powered by a Bucher 4.3kW powerpack featuring an oil tank holding 70 litres. It includes an electronic oil level sensor and is housed in a unit with covers that slide sideways for easy maintenance access even when coupled to a tractor. Bucher Hydraulics is a Swiss manufacturer known for precision hydraulic components used in professional transport applications.

How are the platforms controlled? All hydraulic functions are operated wirelessly via Tele-Radio remote controllers. The system is controlled by a PLC and features a touch display measuring 7 inches that provides live process monitoring and operational feedback. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) enables precise sequencing and safety interlocks for all hydraulic operations.

What is the operating pressure and speed of the hydraulic system? The system operates at a pressure of 210 bar, using independent cylinders with three stages to control each deck. This architecture allows for a lifting time of approximately 45 seconds per deck, ensuring rapid loading cycles. Multistage cylinders provide extended stroke length while maintaining compact retracted dimensions.

How does the Gooseneck Platform (Deck 1) achieve precise positioning? The Gooseneck platform is not just hydraulically lifted; it is supported by worm screw spindle mechanisms integrated directly into the gooseneck framework. This hybrid system ensures maximum stability and precise height adjustment for the first vehicle load. Worm screw spindles provide mechanical locking and fine adjustment capabilities independent of hydraulic pressure.

What prevents hydraulic leaks under heavy vibration? We have upgraded the hydraulic infrastructure to use Hansa-Flex fittings (replacing Rekorsan). These are specifically selected to seal more securely under actual operating conditions, providing quieter, cleaner operation and secure sealing during transport. Hansa-Flex fittings feature precisely machined sealing surfaces and materials of high quality for vibration resistance.

What safety mechanisms prevent platform failure? We have replaced older mechanically locked cylinders with a new hydraulic valve architecture with dual protection. This reduces manual steps and increases reliability. Furthermore, the system includes limit sensors on the spindle systems to shield components from unexpected strain. Dual protection valves provide redundant protection against uncontrolled platform descent.

What is the lifting capacity of the platforms? Each of the three platforms provides an independent lifting capacity of 4,000 kg. The trailer has a technically permissible maximum laden mass of 32,000 kg. Independent hydraulic circuits allow simultaneous or sequential platform operation based on loading requirements.

What are the specifications of the loading winches? The trailer is equipped with two hydraulic winches (positioned front and rear), each rated at a capacity of 4 tonnes. They come with 25 metres of steel rope, integrated safety valves, and emergency stop mechanisms. Hydraulic winches provide variable speed control for precise vehicle positioning on steep loading angles.

Can the operator monitor the system status remotely? Yes. The operation is managed via a Tele-Radio wireless remote connected to a PLC that features an integrated touch display measuring 7 inches. This interface provides live process monitoring, feedback, and seamless control over the electrohydraulic valves. Touch display shows hydraulic pressure, platform positions, and system diagnostics as they change.

How does the lighting system support night operations? Beyond standard road compliance, the trailer is equipped with 6 working LED lights specifically positioned to illuminate the workspace. The entire suite has been upgraded to Aspöck systems, featuring dynamic rear stop lamps and clearly visible side markers to ensure safety in all conditions. Aspöck LED lighting provides improved durability, lower power consumption, and consistent illumination across temperature ranges.

Does the trailer require frequent greasing? Maintenance requirements are minimised significantly. All articulated joints are fitted with IGUS TX1 fibre bushings (sourced from Germany), which allow for operation without greasing. Additionally, platform extensions slide on polyamide sheets for smooth movement without routine maintenance. IGUS TX1 bushings are self lubricating polymer bearings designed for demanding applications requiring little maintenance.

What axles and braking systems are used? The trailer runs on two Gigant drum axles rated at 10 tonnes with air suspension. Braking is managed by a Wabco or Knorr-Bremse 2S-2M EBS configuration, featuring automatic slack adjusters for enhanced safety. EBS (Electronic Braking System) provides faster response times and improved brake force distribution compared to conventional systems.

What lighting system is equipped on the trailer? We have upgraded from Fristom to a complete Aspöck LED lighting suite. This includes dynamic rear stop lamps, side markers, and 6 working LED lights, providing brighter, more consistent illumination and a cleaner design. Full LED configuration reduces power draw and extends bulb life to 50,000+ hours.

How accessible is the power unit for maintenance? The Bucher powerpack is housed in a unit with covers that slide sideways. This design allows mechanics to access the oil tank, filters, and connection hub effortlessly, even when the trailer is still attached to the tractor, minimising downtime. Sliding Access design eliminates the need to disconnect from tractor for routine maintenance tasks.

Do the sliding platforms require regular lubrication? No. The platform extensions slide on polyamide sheets, and articulated joints are fitted with IGUS TX1 fibre bushings sourced from Germany. These components are designed for operation without greasing, significantly reducing maintenance needs throughout the service life. Polyamide (PA6) sheets provide low friction coefficient and excellent wear resistance under heavy loads.

Is the trailer suitable for loading sports cars with low ground clearance? Yes. The trailer is engineered to accommodate Segment S (Sports Cars), such as the Maserati GranTurismo. The hydraulic rear bumper extension (1,500 mm) and manually extendable aluminium inner ramps provide a shallow approach angle for smooth entry. Approach angle optimised for vehicles with ground clearance as low as 100mm.

Can the trailer handle heavy SUVs and Electric Vehicles (EVs)? Absolutely. The chassis is optimised for Segment J (SUVs) like the Mercedes AMG G63 and Segment E (Electric) like the Tesla Model S. The 32,000 kg max laden mass and construction using steel of high strength ensure it can handle the heavier kerb weights associated with modern EVs and SUVs. Platform spacing and deck heights configurable for optimal multiple vehicle loading combinations.

What electrical connections does the truck require? The trailer requires a 24V / 200A NATO socket with a spring cable for the high current connection needed to run the power pack. It also uses two sockets with 7 pins each (or a socket with 15 pins) for standard lighting and signalling connections. NATO socket provides a robust connection intended for military use rated for continuous high current draw in all weather conditions.

What is the capacity of the onboard air tanks? The braking system is supported by an air reservoir configuration of 80L + 80L + 1L (filter tank). The electrical system runs on a 24V architecture compliant with SAE standards. Dual 80L tanks ensure adequate air supply for multiple brake applications even in emergency situations.

What is Hardox steel and where is it used in trailers? Hardox is an abrasion resistant steel manufactured by SSAB, specifically designed for applications requiring exceptional abrasion resistance. Grades vary from 400 to 500 HBW. Typical applications include dump truck bodies and loader buckets. Service life can be 3 to 5 times longer than conventional steel.

What are the welding requirements for steels of high strength? Steels of high strength require specialised welding procedures to maintain mechanical properties and prevent defects, including preheating for thicknesses > 20mm. Welding procedures must be qualified according to EN ISO 15614. Heat input typically limited to 0.8 to 2.5 kJ/mm.
